JV Wins Crane Relays

The Monahans boys Varsity track and field teams made a
good showing at the Golden Crane Relays in Crane. The varsity boys had
strong finishes in field events and relays to give them third place, while the
JV boys had frequent top-three finishes to help them win their division.
Varsity
Arnold Rodriguez placed first in the long jump with a distance of 21-10.25.
Rodriguez and Jared till had 5-10 high jumps. Rodriguez placed fourth and Till placed fifth.
In the triple jump, Russell Covington placed first with a 44-2 jump.
Michael Murphree placed second in the shot put and discus. His throw of 144-6 was 15 inches shy of the first place put by Washington of Greenwood. Fierro of Ozona beat Murphree's 49-5 discus throw by 18 inches.
Josh smith placed fifth by pole vaulting 11-6.
The relay team made outstanding performances by placing first in two out of three relay races. Devon Fann, Chris Bates, Chris Roberson and Oscar Ruiz competed in the 400, 800 and 1600-meter relays. In the 400, the team won first place with a time of 43.36 seconds. The team won the 800 relay in 1;29.79. In the 1600-meter relay, the team placed fifth in 3:38.83.
Flavio Armendariz ran the 110-meter hurdles in 16.22 to place sixth in the event. Armendariz finished the 300-meter hurdles in 41.83 for third place.
Josh Munoz placed fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:49.11.

Junior Varsity
Matthew Montoya won the long jump with a distance of 18-8.75.
Sean Britton triple-jumped 37-1 to place third in the event.
Calvin Franks placed third with a high jump of 5-4.
In the shot put, Austin Gregory placed third with a throw of 38-3.25.
Chad Harris placed second in the 3200-meter run in 11;39.16.
In the 800-meter run, Pablo Jimenez placed first while teammate Justin Tester placed second. They had times of 2:19.71 and 2:19.99.
The relay team of Ivan Rios, Steven Neel, Sean Britton and Matthew Montoya won the 400-meter relay with a time of 46;29.
Trevor Owens placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.91.
Adam Steen placed third and Matthew Montoya placed fifth in the 100-meter dash. They had times times of 11.72 and 11.84.
Arturo Aranda finished the 400-meter dash in 56.82 and second place.
Montoya, Neel, Britton and Jimenez ran the 800-meter relay in 1:37.52 and finishes in first place.
Franks placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.58. Trevor Owens placed sixth in the event in 47.99.
In the 200-meter dash, Steen placed second in 24.91, Neel placed third in 24.94, and Poynor placed fifth in 25.57 seconds.
Harris won the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:17.36.
