The Monahans boys track team split up between two venues
on Friday. The varsity boys participated in Midland at the Tall City
relays, while the JV competed at the Wildcat Relays in Wink.
Unique to the Midland meet was the combined competition between all schools, 3A through 5A. The stiff competition made it harder for the small-school boys to place.
In the long jump, Devon Fann placed sixth with a distance of 20'10." Teammate Arnold Rodriguez jumped 20'8" and placed seventh.
Russell Covington competed in the triple jump. With a jump of 41'5", he placed third behind competitors from Midland 5A schools.
Micheal Murphee, who dominates 3A completion in the shot put and discus, placed third in both event on Friday. He had a throw of 52'8" in shot put, and 140'2" in discus.
Meanwhile, the JV Loboes competed in Wink and placed third with 65 points. Due to weather conditions, the meet was cut short. The 20-meter dash and the 1600-meter run and relay were cancelled.
Shaq Smith paced third in the shot put wit ha distance of 40'11".
Quincy Titus high jumped 5'8" for fourth place.
Tanner Owens had a distance of 38'4.5" in the triple jump, putting him in fourth place.
In the pole vault, Blake Hughes placed second with a height of 11'00". With a height of 8'0", Bobby Fabian placed fourth.
Monahans had two competitors in the 3200 meter run. Colt Smith finished in 13:35.70 for fourth place. In fifth place was Chad Harris with a time of 13:53.35.
The relay team of Quincy Titus, Steven Neel, Sean Britton, and Matthew Montoya placed fourth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 46.01.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Trevor Owens took third place in 18.03. Calvin Franks placed fifth in 20.48, and Ricky Chandler had a time of 21.15 for sixth place.
Sean Britton competed in the 100 meter hurdles and placed fourth with at time of 11.72.
Montoya, Neel, Titus, and Tanner Owens teamed up to compete in the 800-meter relay. The team placed third with a time of 1:39.72.
