Monahans Track Teams Win District

Those who attended or competed in the district 2-3A track finals in Fort Stockton repeatedly heard the phrase, "and in first place, from Monahans...".  Both Monahans Varsity teams were in first place after day one of the meet and held on to clinch the championship in day two.  2007 marks the second year the the Loboes and Lady Loboes have swept the district titles.

Varsity Boys

The varsity boys won the meet with 267 points, beating 216-points Fort Stockton.  Trailing in third was Pecos with 83 points.  Presidio ended the day with eight.

The relay team of Devon Fann, Chris Bates, Chris Roberson and Oscar Ruiz won the 400- meter relay with a time of 43:08.

Josh Smith placed third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:12.56.  Colt Smith placed sixth in the event in 2:15.78.

Nate Adams took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.58, beating out teammate Flavio Armendariz who placed second in 17.58.  Aaron Armendariz placed fifth in the event with a time of 17.77.

Bates who the 100-meter dash in 11.71.  Arnold Rodriguez placed fourth in 12.21.

The relay team of Fann, Bates, Roberson and Armendariz won the 800-meter relay in 1:32.02.

In the 400-meter, Tanner Owens placed fifth with a time of 56.50.

Flavio Armendariz placed third in the 300-meter hurdles, while Aaron Armendariz placed fifth.  Their time were 42.18 and 45.36.

Roberson placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.24. Fann and Ruiz finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, with time of 23.84 and 23.96.

The 1600-meter was the only relay the Monahans boys did not win.  The team placed third in the event with at finishing time of 3:50.15.

In the 1600-meter run, Monahans' Munoz placed first in 5:03:93.  Smith placed third in 5:15.30, and Azuaje placed fourth in 5:15.89.

Varsity girls

The varsity girls, with 242 points, were just nine points ahead of second placed Pecos, Presidio placed third with 61 points, followed closely by Fort Stockton with 60.

Kim Madrid, Alyssa Roark, Erin Coldewey and Jordan Latham placed first in the 400-meter relay in a time of 51.96.

Hanna Escamilla placed second while Marissa Acosta placed third in the 800-meter run.  Their time were 2:37.15 and 2:38.12.

Yazmin Valenzuela placed second in the 100-hurdles. Valenzuela's time was 17.15.  Kali Lewis placed fourth with a time of 19.25.  Kati Holly finished in 20.12. and sixth place.

Latham won the 100-meter dash, as expect, in a time of 12.87.  Ashley Pedraza placed fourth in event in 14.02.

In the 800-meter, Monahans had another first place finish.  Kim Madrid, Alyssa Roark, Margie Vidana and Jordan Latham finished the race in 1:51:68.

Kristi Holly placed second in the 400 in a time of 1:06:50.  Lindsey Wright placed fifth in 1:09:00 for sixth place.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Margie Vidana placed second in 51.34 and third place, Kali Lewis placed fifth in 56.15.

Kim Madrid placed second in the 200-meter relay in a time of 28-40.  Roark finished in 29.37 for fourth place, and Coldewey placed fifth in 29.87.

The relay team of Kristi Holly, Margie Vidana, Yasmin Valenzuela and Lindsey Wright placed third in the 1600-meter run relay in 4:34:93.

In the 1600-meter run, Azuaje placed first in 6:03.46.  Jennifer Forest placed sixth in 6:29.43.

JV boys

The junior varsity boys won their district by a large margin with 300 points.  Fort Stockton was in second place with 135 points, ahead of Pecos with 104.  In fourth place with 52 points was Presidio.

Monahans took first place in the 400-meter relay in a time of 46.56.

In the 800-meter run, Tali Fletcher placed second in a time of 2:15:00.  In third place was Justin Tester in 2:15:00.  In third place was Justin Tester in 2:15:19.

Quincy Titus won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.40.  Trevor Owens placed second in 17.88, followed by Calvin Franks in third with a time of 18.78.

Clay Anthony placed first in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.12.  With a time of 12.37, Matthew Montoya came in second.  Ivan Rios placed fifth in 12.50.

The 800-meter relay team placed first in 1:37.81.

Christian Poynor placed first in the 400-meter dash in 56.58.  Closely behind in second was Arturo Aranda with a time fo 56.68.

Titus won first place in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.11.  Trevor Owns placed third in 46.11.  In fourth place was Franks with a time of 46.52.

Monahans had the top three finishes in the 200-meter dash.  Steven Neel, Clay Anthony and Adam Steen had respective time of 24.25, 24.52 and 25.06.

The Loboes placed first in the 1600-meter relay in a time of 3:51.81.

In the 1600-meter run, Chad Harris won in 5:29.44.  In third place was Justin Tester with a time of 5:44.22.  Jon Mauer placed sixth in 5:59.25.

JV girls

The JV Lady Loboes were in second place with 128 point.  Fort Stockton finished first in the division with 150 point.  Pecos finished third with 112 point.

Monahans placed first in the 400-meter relay in a time of 54.65.

Sarah Oyerbides was the only runner in the 800-meter run and finished in a time of 3:33.08.

Lazelda Walker won the 100-meter dash in 13.62, followed by Nisha Walker in 14.78.  Brooke Moore placed fifth in the event with a time of 15.06.

Monahans placed second behind Fort Stockton in the 800-meter relay.  The time was 2:01.36.

Cynthia Simon finished the 400-meter dash in 1:11.84 for first place.

Gladys Ruiz finished the 200-meter dash in 31.68 and second place.  Walker finished in fifth place in a time of 34.27.

The 1600-meter relay was won by Monahans in a time of 4:51.81.

Michelle Azuaje won the 1600-meter run in 6:03.46.  Jennifer Forest placed sixth in the event in 6:29.43.

Oyerbides finished the 1600-meter run in 8:45.87, earning first place points for her team.

The top three finishers in each varsity event will go to compete in the Region 1-3A meet in Odessa on April 27 and 28.
