The Monahans Lady Lobo track team blasted the field at the West of the Pecos Relays Friday, claiming their second consecutive team title in two week.
Monahans amassed 235 total points through 33 events to overwhelm second place El Dorado with 121 points at the meet. Pecos finished third with 84, Midland Christian (45), Kermit (40), Presidio (29), Seminole (26), Fort Stockton (25), and Monahans "B" had 12 points.
MHS used strong performances in the field events to jump out to a comfortable lead for the second week in a row, and cruised to their second title of the 2006 season.
Alison Miller finished second in the girls' shot put with a throw of 35-08.
Last week in Fort Stockton, Miller put up the best throw of her MHS career to take the gold medal, just ahead of Chantell Mazone of Pecos. However, Mazone won the West of the Pecos title with a throw of 35-11. Kim Wilson finished in sixth place with a throw of 38-08 for MHS.
Just as the shot put leader changed from the previous week, so did the girls discus champion.
Mazone won the Comanche Relay title, but Miller turned the tables in Pecos and claimed first place in the girls' discus event with a throw of 109-11, just ahead of Mazone's 107-01.
Wilson added a sixth place finish for the Lady Loboes with a throw of 86-06.
In the girls' long jump, Chelsea Cartwright and Jordan Latham gave MHS a one-two finish in the event.
Cartwright exploded on a jump of 16-09 to win the title, and Latham followed with a jump of 15-11, good enough for second place.
The girls' triple jump was much the same for Monahans, as Cartwright soared 34-06 to win her second gold medal in the field events. Crystal Madrid finished second with a jump of 33-08 to quickly distance the Green from the field of competition.
Yazmin Valenzuela finished twelfth with a jump of 29-09.25, and Angie Sauceda took seventeenth with a jump of 26-08 in the triple jump event.
Jordan Latham won the girls' title in the high jump, sailing 5 feet clear the bar.
Catherine Cutbirth, straight off her individual appearance in the State Swimming and Diving Championships, posted a jump of 4-08 to finish fourth place in the high jump.
The Ladies continued to dominate the field events as Bree Williams and Kelsi Hays finished first and second in the girls' pole vault to literally slam the door in the girls' division after the field events concluded.
Williams won the pole vault title with a vault of 9 feet, followed by Hays who posted a 8 feet vault for second place.
The running events kicked off with Daisy Zamarripa claiming a third place finish in the girls' 3200 meter run. Zamarripa finished the event with a time of 3:08.40.
The Monahans sprint relay team of Chelsea Cartwright, Amanda Hernandez, Crystal Madrid and Kim Madrid won the gold medal with a time of 51.41 in the 4X100 meter relay.
Proving that MHS is endowed with speed, the Monahans "B" relay team of Danica Hicks, Ashley Pedroza, Angie Sauceda and Eureka Roy finished fourth in the event, ahead of varsity teams from Fort Stockton and Presidio.
Monica Ortega finished third in girls 800 meter run with a time of 2:39, while Camilla Cutbirth completed his first race of the season with a fifth place finish at 2:43.
The Monahans girls took six of the top ten positions in the finals of the girls' 100-meter hurdles, led by Cartwright who ran away with the gold.

The Lady Loboes didn't let up as Cartwright and Jordan Latham outran the field in the girls' 100-meter dash to take the gold and silver.
Cartwright finished the sprint in a time of 12.59 for the first place, and Latham was on her heels posting a 13.02 for second place in the event.

This week the Lady Loboes will face a very strong field of competition at the West Texas Relay in Odessa.
MHS Coach Chris Simpson knows it won't be easy, but anticipates a big performance from his team.
"We know we will have to be at our best to win in Odessa," Simpson said. "Canyon has won the meet the past couple of years, and we know they are the team to beat. I feel like that would be a great confidence booster for our team if we can win and beat them."
But after the performance the Ladies left at the West of the Pecos Relay,
momentum and confidence are certain to carry over to Odessa.
