Lobo Track Takes First at West
of the Pecos

Pecos High School recently hosted the West of the Pecos Relays.
The Monahans track team was in attendance along with Andrews, Fort Stockton,
Kermit, Midland Greenwood, Midland Christian, Presidio, and the hosting Pecos
team.
The Lobo Varsity track team was in close contention with Midland Christian, and at the end of the day, cleared first place by one point. The Lobos boys earned points by placing in all but two events.
In discus, Michael Murphree had a distance of 139-05 for second place.
In the high jump, Arnold Rodriguez and Jarod Till reached second and third places, respectively. They each has heights of 5-10.
Monahans has three competitors in the long jump. Devon Fann came in to second place with a distance of 20-01.75. Rodriguez's 19-10 second place, and with a distance of 18-10.75 Russell Covington placed 6th.
In the shot put, powerhouse Murphree gold medaled with a distance of 57-07.25. Teammate Anthony Santiago placed fifth with 38-03.
Lobo Russell Covington took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 43-03.5. In fifth place, Flavio Armendariz's distance was 38-06.
Josh Smith placed second in the pole vault for Monahans with 10-6.
In the 3200-meter run, Aaron Forest placed sixth place with a time of 11:16.7.
Monahans earned another gold in the 400-meter relay with a time of 44.78. The Monahans team was Devon Fann, Chris Bates, Russell Covington, and Chris Roberson.
Flavio Armendariz had a time of 17:17 in the 110-meter hurdles. Armendariz places 4th.
Two members of the Monahans team placed in the 100-meter dash. With a time of 11.25, Chris Roberson placed third. In sixth places was Chris Bates with a time of 11:46.
The Monahans 800-meter relay team, Devon Fann, Oscar Ruiz, Russell Covington, and Chris Roberson, finished in second place with a time of 1:32.63.
Josh Smith placed fifth in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.2.
In the 200-meter, Devon Fann placed second with a time of 22.94. Chris Roberson finished fourth with a time of 23.4.
Bryan Azuaje had a time of 5:07.39 for third place in the 1600. In fourth place, Aaron Forest finished with a time of 5:08.08.
In the 1600-meter relay, the Monahans team of Flavio Armendariz, Josh Smith, Tanner Owens, and Oscar Ruiz finished in fifth place with a time of 3:43.62.
For the boys' JV, Austin Grigry placed first in shot put and Shaq Smith placed second. Sean Britton and Arturo Aranda won first place in the JV triple jump, respectively. Matt Montoya earned first, and Sean Britton earned second in the JV long jump. Calvin Franks placed first in the JV high jump and Isaac Sotelo tied for second with Kauowa Bulton from Midland Christian.
In the JV 3200-meter, Chad Harris placed second placed second and Tanner Harris placed fifth. The JV 400-meter relay team of Christian Poyner, Steven Neel, Sean Britton, and Montoya took first place. Justin Tester and Aranda placed third and fifth in the JV 800 - meter hurdles, Trevor Owens placed first, Calvin Franks placed fourth, and Ricky Chandler placed fifth. Montoya took first in the JV 100 - meter dash while Poyner took fifth. The JV 800 - meter relay team of Poyner, Neel, Rios, Montoya, and Britton placed first. Isaac Sotelo won third place in the JV 400 - meter dash. In the JV 300 - meter hurdles, Owens and Franks took second and fourth, respectively. Neel placed second in the JV 200 - meter dash. Harris placed first in the JV 1600 - meter run. The relay team of George Arriola, Issac Sotelo, Arturo Aranda, and Sean Britton took first place in the JV 1600 - meter relay.
The girl's Varsity team finished in second place just a half a point behind Andrews. The team was able to place in all but one varsity event at the meet.
Bethany Willmon took fourth place in discuss with a distance of 90-07.
Monahans had two girls place in the shot put. Kim Wilson took third place with 33-07.50, and Bethany Willmon placed fourth with 32-09.75.
In the triple jump, Kali Lewis and Kristi Holly took fourth and fifth places with distances of 31-11.00 and 31-06.50, respectively.
Jordan Latham and Kristi Holly participated in the long jump. Latham placed second with a distance of 15-03.00. Holly finished fourth with 14-06.75.
Kati Holly took home the gold in the high jump. She finished with 5-05.00, a full five inches higher than second place 5-00.00. Jordan Latham jumped 4-10.00 for fourth place, and Kali Lewis finished sixth with a height of 4-08.00.
Monahans earned another gold medal when Kelsi Hays won the pole vault with a height of 8-03.00. Brittany Bustos earned silver with 7-00.00.
Jennifer Forest competed in the 3200 - meter run. Her time of 13:55.40 earned her fifth place.
The girl's 400 - meter relay team finished in third place with a time of 54.05.
Hannah Escamilla earned team points for Monahans by finishing the 800 - meter run in 2:47.42. She took sixth place.
Kim Madrid won first place in the 100 - meter dash with a time of 13.32.
In the 800 - meter relay, Monahans took second place with a time of 1:55.10.
Kristi Holly placed fourth in the 400 - meter dash with a time of 1:06.81.
Kali Lewis and Kati Holly ran in the 300 - meter hurdles. Lewis and Holly earned fourth and fifth places with time of 54.40 and 54.43, respectively.
Jordan Latham placed fourth in the 200 - meter dash with a time of 28.57.
The girl's Junior Varsity team placed third with 51 points. Raquel Robledo placed sixth in JV shot put. Eliza Vidana placed second on JV pole vault and fifth in the JV 800. Sarah Oyerbides placed sixth in the JV 800. In the JV 100 meter dash, Lazelda Walker placed first, and Karina Hernandez placed fifth. Walker also placed first in the JV 200 meter dash.
