LUBBOCK  Monahans High School’s volleyball team moved within one victory of a fourth consecutive trip to state Friday by routing Graham 25-11, 25-8, 25-14 during a Region I-3A Tournament semifinal match at Lubbock Christian University’s Rip Griffin Center.

Because of three earlier matches on the same court, the Monahans-Graham match — which was scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m. — did not get under way until after 10 p.m.

“We were a little bit sluggish because we’re not used to play at 10 o’clock,” Monahans coach Patty Dominguez said.  “That’s usually our bed time.”

Dominguez noted the attacking of Bailey Marcum, Ali Miller and Brittany Hughes in helping lead the victory against the Lady Steers, who are coached by Monahans graduate Leah Johnson.

Monahans (40-3) advanced to today’s 5 p.m. final to play Dalhart (25-14), with the winner advancing to the UIL Class 3A State Tournament. Monahans already has beaten Dalhart twice this seas
