Lady Loboes take down
Midland Christian
The Monahans News, September 2, 2005
The Monahans Lady Loboes defeated Midland Christian 25-12, 25-10, 25-21 in non-district play, to move their record to 18-1 on the season.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead, and the Ladies battled back point for point until Brittany Hughes broke game one open with an ace and served six straight points to put the Green up 9-3.
The Ladies continued to roll through the game with big blocks from Hughes and Allison Miller. On the other side Candace Swarb passed the ball extremely well and set the Lobo hitters in scoring position.
Swarb finished the night with 30 assists, five blocks and seven digs.
"Candace has been very consistent for us, "Coach Patty Dominguez said. "You get the same game from her every time out on the court."
Dina Ortiz serve five consecutive points late in the game to stretch the lead to 20-9.
Bailey Marcum put down the final kill of the game and MHS took game one 25-12.
In game two, Monahans rolled to a commanding 11-2 lead, forcing a Midland Christian time out.
The Mustangs made a short rally, and Miller answered back with two kills to distance the Ladies 18-5.
Ortiz served an ace to move the score to 21-6, and the Green slammed the door on game two 25-10.
The Mustangs had nothing to lose in game three, and came out playing with that mind set. MCHS went up 0-2 on the Ladies, and Claire Jacobsma rode the momentum recording a kill to extend the deficit to three points.
But an illegal substitution by the Mustangs took a point from the MC side and the official awarded it to the Lady Loboes for the violation to make the game 1-2.
Bethany Willmon and Hughes went to work at the net and the Ladies took a 18-11 lead. The Mustangs put on a late rally to tie the game at 20-20, before the Lady Loboes ran away with the 25-21 victory, and took the match.
Midland Christian, which fell to 11-9, was led by Amanda Roberts and Jacobsma with six kills each.

A big test awaits the Ladies on the other side of the bracket, as Canyon looks to be the strongest team to face Monahans in the tournament.
"It will be good," Dominguez said. "We look forward to people challenging us, and we'll get some looks that we need to see before the playoffs."
