Lady Loboes To Test West Texas' Best
The Monahans News, August 19, 2005
The 32nd Annual Monahans Volleyball Tournament of Champions will begin at 8 am Friday with the defending Class 3A State Champion Monahans Lady Loboes hosting the Van Horn Eagles.
Joining Monahans in the all-sta
r
lineup are last years tournament champion Lubbock Trinity, also the defending 4A
TAPPS State Champion, will return to defend their 2004 title.
Two-time District 3-5A champion Midland High, Class 2A State semi-finalist Denver City, Seminole, Andrews, El Paso Ysleta, El Paso Riverside, El Paso Bowie, El Paso Montwood, Presidio, Frenship, Lubbock Christian, Pecos and Dalhart complete a very strong field.
Coach Patty Dominguez is excited about the opportunity to face many of West Texas outstanding teams in the tournament.
"We are ready for the challenge," Dominguez said. "We know that every time we walk onto the court we are the target, and we like being on that side of the coin.
The girls understand our position and want to stay on top. It's a position we are comfortable with and an added advantage for us right now."
Lubbock Trinity and Midland High defeated the Lady Loboes in last year's tournament, leaving the Ladies with a bad taste and holding onto third place.
"We have seen Midland once this year, and they will be a much better team than the one we faced. It will be a big challenge but we are up to it."
Monahans becomes the grand stage for West Texas volleyball this weekend, and the Lady Loboes extend a "Welcome to the Jungle."
