Lady Loboes Continue to Pick Up honors

The 2005 All-West Texas
Volleyball team includes four Lady Loboes, including the Superlative honor.
Brittany Hughes has been named the All-West Texas Player of
the Year for the second consecutive year.
Hughes won the award in 2004 on the heels of the Lady Loboes
Class 3A State championship, and led MHS to the state finals again in 2005.
Candace Swarb and Catherine Cutbirth were first
team selections, and Alison Miller was recognized on the second team.
The All-West Texas team is chosen from all classifications
in West Texas , and chosen by the sports writers of the San Angelo Standard-Times.
Brittany Hughes has been recognized on every major
venue in Texas after leading Monahans to four consecutive state tournament
appearances.
"Brittany is considered by many longtime and
knowledgeable observers as the best volleyball player to come out of this area. Whether
it was attacking, serving, blocking, passing or leadership, there was no
weaknesses in her game," said the Standard-Times.
She finished her career ranked in the U.S. high school
history for kills (2,678) and kills per match (17.6 in 2004), tenth in kills in
a season (808 in 2004) and eighth in career blocks (516).
Candace Swarb was named the first team setter on the AWT
squad. She recorded 1,371 assists, 58 kills, 41 blocks, 250 digs and 30 aces
in her senior season.
Catherine Cutbirth, a junior outsider hitter, was also
selected to the first team. She amassed 203 kills, 300 digs, 47 aces, and 35.5
blocks in the Lady Loboes state finals run.
Alison Miller completed an outstanding senior season,
and was honored on the second team as an outside hitter.
Miller recorded 385 kills, 64 blocks and picked up 62 digs
in her final season for the Green.
