Big Spring –  For the seventh consecutive season, the Monahans Lady Loboes are headed to the Class 3A regional quarterfinals.

Monahans swept aside Sweetwater 25-22, 25-8, 25-20 in the area round Saturday at Big Spring Middle School.

"It's a good feeling to get that out of the way," Monahans coach Patty Dominguez said.  "To get our first match and the nerves out of the way.  I'm excited that's gone."

Monahans (32-10 overall) will play the winner of the Lubbock Cooper in the quarterfinals at a time, date and site to be determined.

Monahans dominated for stretches in the match, jumping out to a 20-10 lead in Game 1 before the Sweetwater made it interesting.

"Our serve errors hurt us in Games 1 and 3," Dominguez said.  "When you do that, it hurts your momentum."

Monahans committed four service errors in the first game and three more in the third, but the second game showed just how good the Lady Loboes can be.  They went to a 10-1 run to close the game, led by the serving of Kati Holly.

"That's not the best we can play."  Dominguez said about the second game, "but every time we lost the ball, we got it back right away.  Kati Holly served nine times in a row for us, and we scored eight point.  She did a really good job, and that is promising because she is only a sophomore."

Dominguez also pointed out Bailey Marcum for her offense and Jordan Latham and Heather Schulz for their defensive play.  Marcum also had a good serve going, using a jump drop serve to score four consecutive aces in the first game.
