Monahans Will Face Andrews in Odessa

The best high school volleyball team in the Permian Basin over the last five years will begin its 2006 playoff run in Odessa.

Monahans (38-3), which has made four consecutive Class 3A state tournament appearances, will face Andrews (21-19) at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Permian Fieldhouse.


The Lady Loboes, as the District 2-3A champion, had a bi-district bye while Andrews opened the postseason Tuesday with a three-game sweep of Brownfield.

Two other area-round matches will be played in Odessa.

In Class 3A, Presidio and Lubbock Cooper will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Permian Fieldhouse. In Class 1A, Fort Davis and Bronte will meet at 3 p.m. at UTPB.

Around the area, Midland High will play El Paso Franklin in a Class 5A area match at 7 p.m. Friday at Sul Ross State in Alpine.
In Class 2A, District 4-2A champ Crane will get a test in the area round when it faces Amarillo Bushland at 6 p.m. Saturday in Levelland.

Marfa, the District 2-1A champion, will enter the playoffs at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against Plains at Kermit.
