The Monahans Lady Loboes improved their season record to 33-3, but more importantly take a 2-0 District 2-3A record to control sole possession first place with a 3-game sweep of Pecos on Saturday.
The game was billed as a continuation of the " Pecos River Shootout' between MHS and Pecos following Friday's football game in which Monahans won 52-0.
The result was much the same at the Jerry Larned Sports Complex Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Loboes controlled the upset-minded Eagles in all three sets.
Pecos (20-8, 1-1) have made great improvements from the 2005 season under first year coach Helen Kimbrough, but the Eagles were overmatched against the experience of the Green.
In fact, Kimbrough brought her team to Monahans to scout the Lady Loboes in the non-district finale with Denver City last Saturday. After winning their District opener against Fort Stockton Tuesday, the Lady Eagles with a new sense of confidence, wanted as upset over the #2 ranked Monahans team.
The Lady Loboes won the first game of the match 25-11, then followed with a 25-13 victory in game two, to put pressure on the Eagles. Monahans routed PHS 25-8 in the third set to earn their second District 2-3A sweep in a row.
Jordan Latham led the way for Monahans, posting 12 kills on the night and picking up 6 digs.
Catherine Cutbirth, Bethany Willmon, and Bailey Marcum blasted the Lady Eagles for 9 kills each in the match.
Cutbirth added in assist and 2 service aces, while Willmon recorded a block, 6 digs and an ace against Pecos.
Marcum was outstanding in the match. In addition to her 9 kills, she posted 9 blocks, 1 assist and 11 digs to route the Eagles in three sets.
Junior setter Kaitlin Mitchell recorded 32 assists and set up the Lady Lobo attack at the net. Mitchell also recorded 5 digs for the night.
Kim Wilson had 1 assist and 3 digs, and her sister Kristi also had 1 dig in the match.
Defensive specialist Dina Ortiz accounted for 2 key digs against her former teammates from Pecos.
The Lady Loboes sit atop the District 1-3A standing at 2-0 face Fort Stockton Tuesday.
The Prowlers (14-21, 0-2) were defeated in five games by Presidio in five games by Presidio 19-25, 25-20, 24-26, 26-24,15-12 Saturday and remain winless in District play.
