Cathernine Cutbirth pounded out 12 kills to lead the Lady Loboes to a three set sweep of Midland Christian Tuesday, 25-21, 25-5, 25-19.

The Mustangs kept the game close in the first set, battling the Green to the end before falling by a 4-point margin.

But Monahans (25-5) pounded MC with big shots throughout game two to earn a decisive 25-5 victory.  In the set, MHS turned in perhaps their most impressive defensive performance of the season, and served notice the volleyball world that they are indeed hungry for another title.

Midland (13-12) battled back in the final set, but eventually succumbed to defeat behind the Lady Loboes power attack led by Cutbirth.

In addition to her12 kills Cutbirth  picked up 8 digs against MCHS.

Kaitlin Mitchell once again had a big night directing the MHS offense, as she recorded 31 assists while dissecting the Mustang defense.

Mitchell also accounted for a kill, 1 block, 2 digs and 2 aces.

Junior Jordan Latham blasted 7 kills, had 8 digs, and 2  assists, while Bailey Marcum recorded 7 kills, 2 assists, and 9 key digs in the match

Bethany Willmon kept the Mustangs off balance at the net by unloading 6 kills, and digging out 7 hard hit shots from MCHS.

Heather Shulz add 1 kill, 1 assist, and 1 dig to the Green's totals, while Dina Ortiz accounted for 3 of the Ladies 38 digs on the night.

Monahans continues their march through the higher classification schools in preparation for District play, and the next stop takes the Ladies to Class 5A Lubbock Coronado, Saturday.

In 2005, Monahans rebounded to take a five set match over the Lady Mustangs at the Jerry Larned Sports Complex, and if history is any indication of what to expect, Saturday's match will be another slugfest.

The Monahans JV defeated the Midland Christian JV 25-23, 25-20.  The 9th grade Ladies defeated Midland Christian 25-8, 25-13.
