The Lady Loboes took on the Fort Stockton
Prowlers on Tuesday night in their season’s third
district
game. The focus of the night was “Think Pink” as a survivor walk preceded the
first serve.
The Lady Loboes and the Prowlers wore pink ribbons in their ribbons in their hair in honor of the occasion. The Monahans girls also socks with bright pink stars. The trainers and coaches from both teams wore pink shirts.
“Think Pink” was held to not only honor cancer survivors and their families, but to help raise money for the fight against cancer.
A gift basket containing items from Bath& Body Works was raffled in the effort. The raffled in the effort. The raffle alone brought in over $380 for the cause, and will be presented by the Lady Loboes to the American Cancer Society. A portion of concession stand proceeds will also be included in the final donation amount.
The Prowlers had the first serve in game one, and quickly made their presence know. Fort Stockton took a lead over Monahans that did not let up until the 25th point, when a Prowler hit one into the net to give Monahans a 13-12 lead. That was all it took for the Ladies to run away with a win.
The Prowlers were only able to score five more points in game one, four of which were from Monahans errors.
The Green took game one 25-17.
Game two’s win was decisive for the Lady Loboes, who never let the Prowlers take a lead and made their dominance know quickly at 14-4 mid-game.
After Fort Stockton put a serve out of bounds, Monahans went on a three-point sprint to the finish. An ace by Heather Schulz put Monahans at game point, where they quickly ended the game 25-13.
An early termination block started Monahans off in the game three lead.
A later ace from Jordan Latham (20), put the Ladies score at double the opponents 14-7. Game three was a sad one for Fort Stockton, who was unable to get into double-digits.
Monahans was at game-point after an ace by Kristi Wilson, and when the Prowlers were unable to return her next serve, the Ladies won game three 25-9.
Bailey Marcum led the team I kills with 14, followed by Jordan Latham with nine.
Kaitlin Mitchell recorded 31 assists.
Schulz had 16 digs to lead the team.
From the serving line, Marcum had a team high of six aces.
The win puts Monahans at a 27-10 season record and UN undefeated 3-0 district record.
On Saturday, the Lady Loboes will play their second round against Presidio.
The parent-day Varsity game begins at 1pm at the Jerry Larned Sports Complex.
