The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program was established in 1979 to:

*encourage Texas children to read more books,
*explore a variety of current books,
          *develop powers of discrimination, and
          *identify their favorite books.

The award process provides librarians, teachers, parents, and writers with insight
into young students' reading preferences. In addition, it affords an opportunity to
honor and encourage imaginative authors who create books with high appeal to
children. The program is a project of the Texas Library Association and is
co-sponsored by the Children's Round Table and the Texas Association of School
Libraries.

In January, Texas school children in grades 3-6 who have read at least five of the twenty titles will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite title.   The winning book will be announced in the spring at the Texas Library Association conference.

At Sudderth, additional rewards will be presented as follows:

5 books - pencil and opportunity to vote

              for your favorite book
10 books - paperback book from selected group
20 books - recognition in the yearbook, newspaper,
                   and awards assembly where students
will receive a certificate of accomplishment.
