Classroom Expectations for Mr. Fox

Keyboarding

Rules

Be in your seat and working when the tardy bell rings.

Be prepared for class.

Instructor will dismiss the class, NOT THE BELL.

Bring a library book to read every day in class.

Be polite and courteous to instructor, students, and equipment.

Goal

The goal of this class is to assist the student in developing and/or increasing their ability to use computer keyboards effectively.

Methods used to accomplish this goal will include but are not limited to utilizing a software based keyboarding tutor and keyboarding from provided handouts.  The only way to learn the keyboard is practice.

Grading

Weekly grades are given based on posture, hand position and production ability.

Every week the student will receive a composite grade for both posture and hand position.  Every time the student fails to maintain proper posture or hand position, 5 points will be deducted from their composite grade.

The production ability grade will be based on work output and speed.

The same production ability (speed and accuracy) from week to week will result in a base line grade of 90.  Increases or decreases in production ability will result in a complimentary increase or decrease in grade.  Deductions will be made due to uncorrected mistakes such as spelling, formatting and inability to produce required documents.

Tardy Policy

If you are present in the classroom but not seated and working when the bell rings (soft tardy), you will give up 2 minutes of free time.

If you are tardy in arriving to the classroom (hard tardy), you will give up 5 minutes of free time as well as being coded as tardy on the attendance system.

If you want to give me an excuse, BRING A NOTE.  Do not expect to be allowed to go back for a note, bring a note with you.

If you run, you are tardy.  Use your time wisely.

Unencumbered Time

Students are allowed to accumulate unencumbered or free time on a daily bases.  Every day in attendance a student accrues 2 minutes of free time.  This amounts to 10 minutes each week or 30 minutes every three weeks.  The students will have a “bank” of time that they are to use wisely as deductions to their account will be made per occurrence based on the following chart.

Item                                                                        Cost

Off task during assignment (talking, etc.)------- 1 minute

Disruptive behavior (noises, etc.)------- 1 minute

Turning Around (curiosity)------- 1 minute

Absent------- 2 minutes

Not seated when bell rings------- 2 minutes

Chewing (anything in mouth)------- 5 minutes

Dress Code Violation------- 5 minutes

Tardy to class------- 5 minutes

Rough housing------- 10 minutes

Rude behavior or words------- 10 minutes

Potty Pass ------- Time in potty x 2

Other items not specifically mentioned will be charged at teacher’s discretion.

If you need to potty, you need to have time in your account.  NO TIME = NO POTTY

Students are allowed to make deductions to their account at the end of class.  Students are not allowed to use ten minutes of their time during the middle of a class day in order to avoid a particular assignment.  Students may however cash in 45 minutes to avoid an entire class period unless that class period is a major assignment day.  When cashing in free time the students can use this time to play on the computer, or engage in other non disruptive activities inside the classroom.

Negative Accounts

If you, due to your behavior, overdraw your free time bank account, you will have opportunity to redeem yourself.  If you are negative by 10 minutes, simply be really good for one week, and you will once again be at 0 minutes.  If you are negative by more than 10 minutes, you will be required to copy sentences during lunch in order to bring your account back up to 0.  Every 10 sentences will repay 1 minute of free time.

Severe Negative Accounts

Students who, by their behavior, signify that that they do not wish to participate in the "free time" policy stated above, will be placed on an alternative plan after conferencing with parents and administration.
